I’m interested in stories that go beyond words, and in how I can bring an audience into the silence I create.

I’m Amy Lu, a filmmaker and visual storyteller based in New York and Shanghai. I work across directing, editing, photography, producing, TV, and documentary. I like knowing what I want before I shoot, but I also like when someone brings in something I didn’t expect. Those are usually the moments that make the work feel alive.

I’m fascinated by divination and ideas of fate. Sometimes I look at the same question through both Meihua Yishu and tarot—not because I expect a simple answer, but because I like how two systems can tell different versions of the same story. That interest slips quietly into my work through coincidence, intuition, and the feeling that some things were always going to happen.

Outside filmmaking, I take a lot of photos. In Shanghai I sometimes work as a personal photographer, which gives me an excuse to walk through the city with people I’ve just met. If something feels a little quiet, strange, awkward, or oddly destined, I’ll probably want to film it.
